Another action packed month of Sports Action lined up in September.
Asian Games 2023
The Asian Games will headline the sports calendar in August. Around 800 Indian athletes will travel to Hangzhou, China to compete for medals. A lot of sports will also give Paris Olympic quotas at Asian Games.
Asian Games: 23 Sept – 8 Oct
Cricket
In Men’s Cricket, Indian team will prepare the upcoming Cricket World Cup by participating in Asia Cup.
Asia Cup: 30 Aug – 17 Sept
Post Asia Cup, Australia will travel to India for a 3 ODI series.
India v Australia: 22 Sept, 24 Sept, 27 Sept
Table Tennis
2023 Asian Table Tennis Championship will take place in Korea between 3-10 September. This is an Olympic qualification event. Winners in Men’s Team, Women’s Team and Mixed Doubles event will earn an Olympic quota. Check Table Tennis Paris Olympic qualification system here.
Volleyball
2023 Women’s Asian Volleyball Championship will take place in Thailand between 30 August and 6 September.
In Beach Volleyball, Indian Men’s team will take part in AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup for Central Zone. This event is scheduled in Bangladesh between 8-11 September. Winner of this event qualifies for 2023-24 Asian Continental Cup.
Rowing
2023 World Rowing Championships will take place in Serbia between 3-10 September.
Athletics
The 2023 Diamond League season will conclude with final 3 events.
Xiamen Diamond League: 2 Sept
Belgium Diamond League: 8 Sept
Season Final (Eugene): 16-17 Sept
Badminton
There are 2 events scheduled on the BWF World Tour.
China Open (BWF 1000): 5-10 Sept
Hong Kong Open (BWF 500): 12-17 Sept
Tennis
The final Grand slam of the year, US Open, takes place in New York between 28 August and 10 September. After US Open, India willbe hosting Davis Cup World Group 2 tie in Lucknow.
Davis Cup World Group 2: India v Morocco – 16-17 Sept
Archery
2023 Archery World Cup finals will take place in Mexico on 9 and 10 September.
Weightlifting
2023 World Weightlifting Championships will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between 4-17 September. This is a Paris Olympics qualification event. Ranking points gained during this event will count for qualification. Read Weightlifting Paris Olympic qualification system here.
Wrestling
2023 World Wrestling Championships will take place in Belgrade, Serbia between 16-24 September. This is a Paris Olympic qualification event. Read Wrestling Paris Olympic qualification system here.
Canoe Slalom
2023 Canoe Slalom World Championships: 19-24 September (Great Britian)
Breaking
2023 World Breaking Championships: 22-24 September (Belgium)
Shooting
Indian Shooting team will participate in Rifle/Pistol World Cup in Brazil between 12-19 September.
Football
Indian Senior Men’s team will compete in King’s Cup. It will be a 4 nation competition held in Thailand.

10 Sept: Final
The key tournament in September for Indian Football will be 2024 U-23 Asia Cup qualification tournament. The 2024 U-23 Asia Cup will act as Paris Olympic qualifer. Read Football qualification system for Paris Olympics here
U-23 Asia Cup qualifier: 43 teams are divided into 11 groups. A total of 16 teams will qualify from these 43 teams – 11 group winners and 5 best placed 2nd rank team. Qatar as host has already qualified. India is drawn into Group G along with host China, Maldives and UAE.
6 Sept: India v Maldives
9 Sept: China v India
12 Sept: India v UAE
