Boxing at the LA 2028 Olympics

Where will the Boxing event take place?

Boxing preliminary rounds will take place at the Peacock Theatre, while medal events will take place at the Downtown Arena.

Dates for Competition:

Preliminary rounds will take place between 15th and 23rd July. Medal events will take place between 27th and 30th July.

Events in Boxing at the LA Olympics: There will be 14 medal events in Boxing: 7 in Men’s Boxing and 7 in Women’s Boxing.

Number of Quota Places:

A total of 248 athletes will compete in boxing at the LA 2028 Olympics. A nation can qualify a maximum of 14 athletes (1 in each event).

How to Qualify:

Qualification quotas will be distributed for both Men’s and Women’s events through the following tournaments:

1. World Boxing Championship, April 2027: Quotas will be distributed at this event, which is scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan.
2. Continental Qualifiers: Each of the regions will host a continental qualifier to allocate quotas.
3. World Qualification Tournament 1 & 2: Post World Championships and Continental Qualifiers, two World Qualification tournaments will be held to allocate quotas.
4. Host Country Quotas: USA, as the host country, automatically gets a total of 6 quotas.
5. Universality Places: 8 quotas will be allocated through universality places

Indian Athletes’ Chance of Qualification:

India has a good depth of Boxers in both Men’s and Women’s weight categories. Their performance at world-level events has also been good in the recent past. India got quotas in 6 out of 13 weight categories in the Paris Olympics. Hopefully, we get more in the LA 2028 cycle.

India has won a total of 3 Olympic Bronze medals in Boxing.
