India opened its medal tally at the Asian Games 2026 on September 20 with two silver medals in Shooting:

Medal Winners:
Shooting (Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team): The trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar, and Vidarsa K. Vinod clinched India’s first medal of the Games by winning Silver with a combined score of 1898.0, finishing behind China. 🥈

Shooting (Women’s 10m Air Rifle Individual): Elavenil Valarivan secured her second Silver medal of the day by scoring 252.4 points in the individual final, narrowly finishing behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi. 🥈

Cricket
Women’s Semifinal: India defeated Bangladesh by 114 runs to storm into the gold medal match. Shafali Verma smashed an unbeaten maiden T20I century (100 off 49 balls*). India posted 195/4 and bowled out Bangladesh for 81, powered by Deepti Sharma (3/7) and Nandani Sharma (3/25). They will face Sri Lanka in the final.

Hockey
Women’s Pool B: India recorded a colossal 19-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their opening match.
Men’s Pool A: Defending champions India routed Indonesia 13-1. Dilpreet Singh scored four goals, while Shilanand Lakra and Sukhjeet Singh scored two each.

Badminton
Women’s Team (Round of 16): India cruised past Kazakhstan 3-0 without dropping a single game. PV Sindhu won the opening rubber 21-7, 21-9, followed by singles victories from Unnati Hooda and Tanvi Sharma. They advance to the quarterfinals to face Japan.

Table Tennis
Women’s Team (Group F): India defeated Indonesia 3-0 in their opening tie, followed by a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Singapore. Yashaswini Ghorpade won both her matches against Singapore, including the deciding match, to secure the tie.
Men’s Team (Group F): India kicked off their campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Indonesia. However they lost their 2nd pool game against Iran 3-0.

Swimming
Men’s 100m Backstroke: Rishabh Das finished 6th in the final, clocking 54.77 seconds. Earlier, he qualified fifth in the heats while Utkarsh Patil finished 12th.
Men’s 100m Freestyle: Benediction Beniston finished 12th and Akash Mani finished 23rd in the heats, failing to qualify for the final.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) & Wushu
MMA (Women’s Traditional 60kg): Suchika Tariyal defeated her Mongolian opponent 2-0 to advance to the semifinals, assuring India of at least a bronze medal.
MMA (Men’s Traditional 77kg): Varun had to forfeit his match due to being declared medically unfit.

Wushu (Men’s Changquan): Suraj Singh Mayanglambam finished 11th in the final.
Wushu (Sanda): Both Aparna (Women’s 52kg) and Vikrant Baliyan (Men’s 75kg) exited in the Round of 16 after 2-0 losses to their respective Iranian opponents.

Teqball
Women’s Singles: Quimcy Dsouza lost the bronze medal match to Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto.
Mixed Doubles: The pair of Quimcy Dsouza and Mohamed Anas Beg lost 0-2 to Vietnam in their bronze medal match.
