Here is a look at how the qualification system will work for Paris Olympics in Table Tennis!

Table Tennis at Paris Olympics will be contested across 5 events: Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles. A total of 172 players will qualify. In the team event, 16 teams will qualify. In the mixed doubles event as well, 16 pairs will qualify. The qualification is subject to maximum 3 players per gender from 1 nation.

How will qualification system work?
Team Event: In both Men’s & Women’s team event, 16 teams will qualify. These 16 quotas will be allocated through 3 different routes. Out of 16 places, 1 place is reserved for host nation -France.
8 quotas to be given to Top 8 teams of 2024 World Table Tennis Championship
6 quotas to be allocated basis continental qualifiers – 1 quota is available with Asia
1 quota to be given according to World Ranking – Highest ranked team who is yet to qualify as per March 2024 ranking list will get a quota.
Ranking points won at 2022 Commonwealth Games, 2022 World Team Championship, 2023 Asian Games & 2024 World Team Championship will play a key role in ranking quota.
Mixed Doubles Qualification: Out of the 16 pairs who will qualify, 1 place is reserved for host country. Other 15 quotas will be given through 3 different routes:
6 quotas through continental qualification – 1 quota is available through Asian route
– 4 quotas to be given through World Qualification event
– 5 quotas to be given through Mixed Doubles ranking as on 7th May, 2024
Singles Qualification: For all the 16 teams that qualify in Team event, they will automatically get 2 quotas in respective Singles event. 2 highest ranked players from qualified team will receive singles quota.
Apart from this, 22 quotas will be allocated based on continental qualification/world ranking. In Singles, Asia has got 6 continental qualification places. Some more quotas will be allocated based on World Ranking as of 18 June 2024.

Asian continental qualification event for team: Asian Games 2023
World Team Table Tennis Championships: 16-25 Feb 2024
World Team Ranking cut-off: 1 March, 2024
Mixed Doubles World Qualification Event: April 2024
Mixed Doubles ranking cut-off: 7 May, 2024
Singles Asia Continental Qualification event: 6-12 May 2024
Singles World Ranking cut-off: 18 June, 2024

Indian chances of qualification
Indian Men’s Team is currently ranked 15 and Women’s team is currently ranked 17.
Teams already qualified for Paris 2024:
Men’s: China, France, Australia, Germany, United States, Brazil, Egypt
Women’s: France, Germany, Australia, China, United States, Brazil, Egypt
With 8 quotas available at upcoming World Championships, it is India’s best chance for qualification. Otherwise we will have to reply on World ranking quota which can go to many teams depending on results.

Women’s: Manika (37), Sreeja (50), Yashaswini (96)
Mixed Doubles: Sathiyan/Manika (11)
2024 World Table Tennis Team Championships:
Format of the tournament: 40 teams divided into 8 groups. Group winners directly move to Round of 16. 2nd and 3rd placed teams move into Round of 24. Indian Men’s team is in group 3 along with South Korea, Poland, Chile and New Zealand. Indian Women’s team is in group 1 along with China, Hungary, Spain and Uzbekistan.
