The qualification process across sports has started for the 2028 LA Olympic Games. One of the key pitstops for Indian athletes to qualify for the Olympic Games will be the 2026 Asian Games.

So here is a look at all the qualification quotas available across sports at the 2026 Asian Games.

2026 Asian Games are going to be held in Japan between 19 September and 4 October.

Archery

Recurve Mixed Team: The Gold medal winner in this event at the Asian Games will also qualify for the 2028 Olympics.

Compound Mixed Team: The Gold medal winner in this event at the Asian Games will also qualify for the 2028 Olympics.

Individual Recurve (Men & Women): The 2 highest placed athletes per gender from different nations in the Asian Games will each earn one quota place for their respective gender.

Hockey

The Gold Medal winner in each of the men’s and women’s tournaments at the Asian Games will directly qualify for the Olympic Games.

Squash

The Gold Medal winner in each of the men’s and women’s tournaments at the Asian Games will directly qualify for the Olympic Games. These quotas will only be applicable if the quota winner is in the top 50 World ranking as of 22nd May, 2028. If the quota winner fails to meet this requirement, the quota will be reallocated to the next-highest-placed eligible athlete at the tournament.

Surfing

The highest-ranked eligible athlete in each of the men’s and women’s competitions at the Asian Games will earn a quota for the Olympic Games.

Tennis

The highest-ranked eligible athlete in each of the men’s and women’s singles competitions at the Asian Games will earn a quota for the Olympic Games. The quota winner has to be in the top-500 world ranking to qualify.

Triathalon

The highest-ranked eligible athlete in each of the men’s and women’s competitions at the Asian Games will earn a quota for the Olympic Games. The quota winner has to be in the top-160 world ranking as of 18 May, 2028 to qualify.

Probable Quota Chances: India has a realistic chance of winning a quota in Hockey & Squash. There is an outside chance in Archery.
