First, here are the top sports news from August:

1. India won a total of 39 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games – 13 🥇 17 🥈 9 🥉
2. Tressa/Gayatri won Bronze in Women’s Doubles at the 2026 World Badminton Championships.
3. Indian Women’s Hockey team finished 5th at 2026 World Cup – their highest finish in more than 5 decades.

On to the calendar for September:

Asian Games 2026

The main Sports event in September is the 2026 Asian Games. It will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan between 19th September and 4th October.

45 nations will compete in 469 events across 43 sports.

There will also be quotas available for the LA 2028 Olympics. Check out all details for the same here.

Cricket

Indian Men’s Cricket team will play Afghanistan in a 3-match T20 series: 13 Sept, 15 Sept, 17 Sept.

The Indian Women’s team will take part in the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup to be held in the UAE between 28 August and 13 September. 8 teams will take part in the competition.

Format: Group Stage -> SF -> Final

30 Aug: India v Thailand
3 Sept: Hong Kong v India
5 Sept: India v Pakistan

Badminton

The BWF World Tour will be in China before athletes proceed to the Asian Games.

1-6 September: China Masters (BWF 750)

Table Tennis

World Table Tennis Tour has a jam-packed calendar in September.

1-6 Sept: WTT Contender Almaty
8-13 Sept: WTT Champions Macao
8-13 Sept: WTT Contender Bulgaria
15-20 Sept: WTT Star Contender Astana
8-12 Sept: WTT Feeder Philippines
14-18 Sept: WTT Feeder Bangkok
23-27 Sept: WTT Feeder Austria

Tennis

The final grand slam of the year takes place in New York between 30 August and 13 September.

Post US Open, India have a big tie in the Davis Cup.

India will play South Korea on 18-19 September in Seoul for the Davis Cup Final Qualifier. If India wins this tie, we will qualify for 2026 Davis Cup finals.

Archery

The Archery World Cup final of 2026 will take place in Mexico on 12-13 September.

Athletics

The 2026 Diamond League Final will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 4-5 September.

Post the finale, we will have the 1st ever World Ultimate Athletics Championships in Hungary between 11-13 September.

Volleyball

The Indian Men’s Volleyball team after capturing the attention of the nation at AVC Men’s Cup 2026 will be back in action.

2026 Asian Volleyball Championship: 4-13 September in Japan

Football

Indian Men’s football team will host Panama for a friendly on 26th September in Bengaluru.
