Where will Archery take place?

Archery will be held at the Dignity Health Sports Park (formerly Carson Sports Park) in Carson, California.

19-28th July 2028

Events in Archery at the LA Olympics:

There is a new event added to Archery at LA 2028: Mixed Compound event. Apart from this, there will be the usual 5 events in Recurve Archery – Men’s & Women’s Team, Men’s & Women’s Individual and Mixed team.

Number of Quota Places:

A total of 128 quotas will be allocated (64 Male and 64 Female).

A nation can have a maximum of 8 quotas (4 Male and 4 Female).

How to Qualify:

There are different qualification pathways for the 6 events.

Recurve Archery:

Men’s & Women’s Team Event:

This time around at the LA Olympics, only 8 teams will qualify in each gender team event. This is down from 12 teams structure of the Paris Olympics.

The 8 quotas will be allocated through 3 pathways:

World Archery Championship 2027 – Top 3 teams in each gender will get a quota. This Championship is scheduled in Colombia in August 2027.
Continental Quotas: The top team at each of the 3 continental championships (Asia, Europe & Americas) will get a quota.
World Team Qualification event: The winner of the world team qualification event will get a quota.
Host Country Quota: USA gets the host country quota, subject to the participation requirement.

Recurve Individual Qualification:

52 archers will qualify for each of the Men’s and Women’s individual archery.

Team Qualification Quotas: 3 Archers from the nations that qualify for the team event will get a quota for the individual event. 24 quotas will be allocated through the team event itself.
World Archery Championship Quotas: 3 highest-ranked athletes who do not get a quota through team qualification will qualify for the individual event, subject to a maximum of one quota per nation.
Recurve Mixed Team (5 quotas): Champions of the Recurve Mixed team event at the Continental games will qualify for the individual event as well.
Continental Qualifiers (10 quotas): Top athletes at standalone continental qualification tournaments (three places in Europe; two places in Asia, Americas and Africa; one place in Oceania) qualify.
Continental Games (CGs) for Asia, Europe and the Americas (6 quotas): Top two athletes at the continental Games in Europe, Asia and the Americas qualify.
Final Qualification Tournament (2 quotas): The top two athletes at the final qualification tournament qualify.
Universality Places (2): 2 quotas will be allocated through universality invitations.

Recurve Mixed Team Qualification:

There will be no additional specific system for the mixed team recurve event. The top 16 mixed teams from the ranking round of the Olympic Games will compete in the Mixed Team recurve event. The top men’s and women’s scores from countries with athletes in both genders will be used to determine the ranking. If there is a tie for the last place (16th), a shoot -off will be conducted to determine the qualified team.

Compound Mixed Team Qualification:

12 teams will qualify for the Compound Mixed Archery.

World Archery Championships: Top 3 teams at the 2027 World Archery Championships qualify.
Continental Games Quotas: The winner of each of the 5 continental games will receive a quota.
World Ranking Quota: 2 highest-ranked teams yet to qualify will receive a quota based on World Ranking.
Host Nation Quota: The USA, as the host nation, is allocated one quota.
Final Qualification Quota: Top team at the final compound mixed team qualification tournament gets 1 quota.

Indian Players to watch out for during qualification:

Given the Compound Mixed event has been added, definitely look out for Abhishek/Jyothi. In Recurve, the ones to watch out for are Dhiraj and Deepika. It would be interesting to see if India manages a team quota in Recurve Archery this time, given field size is reduced to 8.
