Track Cycling at the LA 2028 Olympics

Where will Track Cycling take place?

Track Cycling will be held at the Carson Velodrome, which is located within the Dignity Health Sports Park complex.

Dates for Competition:

25-30th July 2028

Events in Track Cycling at the LA Olympics: There will be 12 medal events in Track Cycling.

Number of Quota Places:

A total of 190 athletes will compete in Track Cycling at the LA 2028 Olympics. Here is the detail on the maximum number of entries from one nation for each event.

How to Qualify:

The qualification is based on the UCI Track Olympic qualification ranking.

Each UCI Track Olympic Qualification Ranking includes the points acquired in the following competitions between 14 October 2026 and 10 April 2028.

  • The 2027 and 2028 editions of the respective continental championships
  • The best two results in the UCI Track World Cup in each of the seasons 2027 and 2028
  • The 2026 and 2027 UCI Track World Championships (elite categories).

Qualification Process for each event:

Team Sprint: The eight best-ranked nations per gender in the UCI Track Olympic Qualification Ranking will each have a team of three athletes qualify.

Sprint & Keirin Individual event: A maximum of 30 athletes will qualify in each of the Sprint and Keirin individual events. Each nation that qualifies in the team sprint event can enter 2 athletes in each of the sprint and keirin events. The remaining 14 quota places will be allocated based on ranking. The highest-ranked 14 athletes in the Qualification Ranking – Sprint and Keirin, who have not obtained any quota places in the team sprint, will obtain one quota place.

Team Pursuit: The eight best-ranked nations per gender in the UCI Track Olympic Qualification Ranking will each have a team of four athletes qualify.

Madison: A maximum of 14 teams will take part in the Madison event. The six best -ranked nations in the qualification ranking
who have not obtained any quota places in the team pursuit will each have a team of two athletes qualify. In addition, nations that have qualified in the team pursuit have the right to enter one
team of two athletes in the madison event.

Omnium: A maximum of 19 athletes will qualify for the Omnium event. The 13 highest -ranked nations in qualification ranking, adhering to the minimum allocation per continent, that have not directly obtained any quota places in the Madison event will each obtain one quota place. In addition, the six nations qualified in the Madison event have the right to enter one athlete in the Omnium event.

Indian Athletes’ Chance of Qualification:

There are a few track cyclists from India who have started doing well on the world stage in recent years. Do watch out for Ronaldo Singh, Esow Alben, David Beckham and Rojit Singh in their journey towards LA 2028 qualification.
