Here is look at Archery qualification system for Paris 2024 Olympics. We will update this post as and when quotas are allocated.

Archery at Paris 2024 Olympics
Similar to Tokyo 2020, there will be 5 events in Archery at Paris 2024 Olympics: Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Men’s Individual, Women’s Individual and Mixed Team. A total of 128 athletes will qualify for Paris Olympics in Archery – 118 quotas, 6 places for host country and 4 universality places.
A nation can send a maximum of 3 Male athletes and 3 Female athletes. If host nation does not its allocated quota places, those quotas will be reallocated basis World Ranking.
Qualification System:
Team Events:
12 teams will participate in both Men’s and Women’s team events. 1 place is given to host country. 11 quotas will be given through 4 routes:
- 2023 World Championships: Top 3 Teams will qualify
- Continental Championship: 1 team will qualify from each of the 3 continental championship – Asia, Europe and America
- Final World Team Qualification Tournament: 3 teams will qualify
- Team World Ranking List: Top 2 ranked teams who have not yet qualified will qualify
If a nation is able to qualify for team event, they automatically get 3 quotas for respective individual events as well.
For nations who are unable to qualify in team event, maximum one individual will be able to qualify for individual event. This applies to both Men’s and Women’s events. Hence, getting qualified as a team should be top priority.
Qualification for Individual Events:
Quotas for individual events will be given through following routes:
2023 World Championships – 3 quotas
Continental Games – Asian Games – 2 quotas
Continental Qualification Tournament – 2 quotas at Asian tournament
Final World Individual Qualification Tournament – 2
Qualification for Mixed Teams Events:
The highest ranked 16 teams in ranking round at Paris Olympics will qualify for the Mixed Team Competition. Hence, a nation needs to have quotas in both Men’s and Women’s individual event for them to stand a chance for Mixed team event.
Winner of the 2022 Asian Games Mixed event will win 1 individual quota in each Men’s and Women’s event.
Timeline of Qualification:
10-25 September: Asian Games
1 April 2023 – 15 June 2024: Time period to achieve MQS score
28 July – 6 August 2023: World Championship
3-10 November: 2023 Asian Archery Championships
9-12 November: 2023 Asian Continental Qualification Tournament
15-16 June 2024 – Final World Qualifiers
24 June 2024 – World Ranking cut-off date

India Qualification Status
Till now India has managed to only bag 1 individual quota in Men’s Recurve through 2023 Asian Continental tournament.
However, India will be eyeing team qualification in both Men’s & Women’s tournament. Here is how India can achieve it:
There are 2 ways India can achieve team qualification for Paris Olympics:
1. Team Qualification Event (15-16 June): Top 3 teams will get the quota
2. World Ranking Quota: Top 2 teams without a quota as per World Rankings on 17th June, 2024 will achieve a team quota.
If India fails to get a quota at World Qualification event in June, can we get a quota through World Rankings? Here is our analysis..
Men’s Team: Indian Men’s Recurve team is currently ranked 3. The top 2 teams are Korea Republic (already with a team quota) and China. If rankings stay same till 17th June, India will get ranking quota.

For calculating team ranking, sum of best 4 tournaments is taken into consideration. 68 points earned in April 2023 will expire and India will lose around 26 points (Next beat ranking point is 42.5 from Berlin August 2023). India will lose another 16 points from Medellin World Cup (June 2023). If our ranking points drop to 189.5, then our ranking will drop and we will lose out on quota place.

Can Indian Archery team gain points?
Yes, Indian archers have an opportunity to earn ranking points in upcoming World Cups.
Shanghai World Cup: 23-28 April
Yecheon World Cup: 21-26 May
Antalya World Cup: 18-23 June
It is extremely important for Indian Archery team to do well in upcoming 3 World Cups to maintain their World Ranking.
Women’s Team: Indian Women’s team is currently ranked 8.

Out of 7 teams ranked above India, France, Germany, Mexico and South Korea already have a team quota. As per current ranking, China and Chinese Taipei are in ranking quota place. So the task for Indian Women’s archery team is clear. Gain ranking points till June and improve world ranking. This will increase India’s chance in the case of non-qualification from World Qualification event.

Indian Women’s archery team is not going to lose any ranking points till June. Hence, they just need to get better results so as to improve their ranking.
Hoping that India bags the coveted team quota.
