
It is the week of the All England England Championships – The oldest Badminton Tournament in the World!
India at 2020 All England Badminton Championships:
Due to ongoing Corona Virus scare, a lot of Indian players have withdrawn from the tournament. However, for those participating, it is a very good opportunity to gather ranking points. It is only BWF 1000 event left before Olympic qualification period ends.
Here are the 1st round matches of Indian players:
Men’s Singles:
🇮🇳 Parupalli Kashyap v Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 🇮🇩 – Kashyap is currently rank number 24 in Race to Tokyo.
🇮🇳 Kidambi Srikanth v Chen Long (3) 🇨🇳 – Srikanth is currently rank number 21 in Race to Tokyo.
🇮🇳 Sai Praneeth v Zhao Jun Peng 🇨🇳 – Sai is currently rank 11 and in qualification spot
🇮🇳 Lakshya Sen v Lee Cheuk Yiu ðŸ‡ðŸ‡° – Lakshya is rank 31 in Race to Tokyo.
Women’s Singles:
🇮🇳 PV Sindhu (6) v Beiwen Zhang 🇺🇸 – Sindhu is currently rank 7 & in qualification spot.
🇮🇳 Saina Nehwal v Akane Yamaguchi (3) 🇯🇵 – Saina is currently rank 22 in Race to Tokyo.
Women’s Doubles:
🇮🇳 Ashwinini/Sikki v Moore/Williams – Ashwini/Sikki are rank 31.
Mixed Doubles:
🇮🇳 Sikki/Chopra v Zheng/Huang (1) 🇨🇳 – Chopra/Sikki are rank 34.
Following Indian players have withdrawn from All England Badminton Championships: Shetty/Rankireddy Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy, HS Prannoy, Sameer Verma, Sourabh Verma, Pooja/Sanjana
Where to watch: Matches will be LIVE on Star Sports and Hotstar in India. Matches will start from 2:30 PM IST.
There has been no badminton action for some weeks now due to Corona Virus. Fans can’t wait for All England to get started. Let the games begin!
Here is quick history of the prestigious Championships:
It started all the way back in 1899 and has been held annually in England since then ( barring the World War years ).
India at All England Badminton Championships!
Till date only 2 Indians have won this prestigious trophy: Prakash Padukone in 1980 and Pullela Gopichand in 2001.
