Aquatics is one of the cornerstones of the Olympic Games. Aquatics consists of 5 sports: Swimming, Artistic Swimming, Diving, Open Water Swimming and Water Polo. Let us look at how teams can qualify for the LA Olympics in Swimming. We will add the qualification process of other sports subsequently.

Where will Swimming take place?

Swimming: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood

Dates for Competition:

Swimming: 22-30 July

Let us look at the qualification procedure.

Swimming:

Events in Swimming at the LA Olympics: There will be 41 events in Swimming.

Number of Quota Places:

830 athletes will qualify in Swimming.

How to Qualify:

Individual Event Qualification: Athletes can qualify by achieving a set standard in each event. Qualification timeline is between 1 March 2027 to 18 June 2028.

A standard Qualification: An athlete who achieves the A Entry Standard in an individual event will directly and he/she may enter additional individual events that are not new events at the LA28 Olympic Games, provided that:
(A) the athlete has achieved (at least) the B Entry Standard
in that event, and
(B) the NOC maximum of two athletes per individual event is not exceeded and both athletes are already counted in the quota.

B Standard Qualification: In the event that quota places are still not fulfilled from A standard, a modified ranking list of athletes who have achieved B standard qualification will be created and the highest-ranked athletes will get a quota.

In addition to this, universality places will also be allocated.

Relay Event Qualification: The top 12 teams at the World Aquatics Championships 2027 in each of the relay events will directly qualify for the Olympics.

India’s Chance of Qualification:

Basis current Indian swimmers’ best performance, no one has achieved the A standard for any of the events. Hence, most probably India should target getting a quota B standard and universality places.
