Handball at the LA 2028 Olympics
Where will Handball take place?
Handball will be held at the Long Beach Arena. It is located in downtown Long Beach, California.

Dates for Competition:
12-28th July 2028
Medal events will take place on the 27th and 28th of July.
Events in Handball at the LA Olympics: 2 events are scheduled to take place in Handball – Men’s Tournament & Women’s Tournament.
Number of Quota Places:
12 teams will qualify in each of the Men’s and Women’s tournaments. Each team will be represented by 14 athletes, and hence, a total of 336 athletes will be part of Handball at the LA 2028 Olympics.
How to Qualify:
For both Men’s and Women’s tournaments, quotas will be allocated through 4 qualification routes:
Qualification is through the following 4 formats:
Host Country Quotas: USA, as the host nation, will get 1 quota each in both Men’s and Women’s tournaments.
Continental Quotas: The winner of each of the 4 continental championships to be played between 2026 and 2028 will achieve a quota for the LA 2028 Olympics.
- North & South America Qualifiers
- Asian Qualifiers
- African Qualifiers
- European Qualifiers
World Championship 2027: The winning team of the 2027 World Handball Championship will qualify directly for the 2028 LA Olympics.
World Qualification Tournament: 6 quota places will be allocated through 3 qualification tournaments. These qualifiers will be held in 2028. Teams will qualify for these qualifiers in the following manner:

India’s Chance of Qualification:
India has never achieved Olympic qualification in Handball. Given the current performance level, there is practically no chance of qualification.
