Neeraj Chopra – Javelin Throw
He is the Number 1 choice for all people when it comes to medal contention. He is the current reigning Olympic and World Champion in Javelin Throw. Since winning Gold at Tokyo Olympics, he has shown great consistency across events. He has won Diamond League events, Asian Games Gold and World Championship Gold. Fingers crossed for another Neeraj special.
Event Date: 6 & 8 August

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty – Badminton Men’s Doubles
In the last 2 years, Satwik & Chirag have risen in the World of Badminton with their consistent performances. They are the World No. 3 pair going into Paris. This year they have been ranked as high as World No. 1. So a lot of expectations are riding on their shoulders for bringing back a medal. Hopefully we see them dancing on the court on 4th August 🙂
Event Date: 27 July – 4 August

Mirabai Chanu – Women’s 49kg Weightlifting
Mirabai has had a very tough last year with injuries. She has not been up to her best in competitions. However, there is news that she has recovered from her injuries and will be completely fit for Paris 2024. If she is able to lift 200+ kgs, she would definitely be in contention for a medal.
Event date: 7 August

Men’s Hockey Team
At Tokyo Olympics, we ended 4 decade long wait for a medal in Hockey with Bronze. The Indian Hockey team will be looking to do better at Paris 2024. As per current form and ranking, we are not favourites for a medal. But same was the case at Tokyo and our team rose up to the occasion. At Paris 2024, India is in a tough group. So getting out of group for QFs is crucial. From then on, it is a matter of taking each game.
Event Date: 27 July – 8 August

Nikhat Zareen – Women’s 50kg Boxing
Nikhat is the reigning World Champion in Women’s 50kg Boxing having won the title in both 2022 and 2023. She is definitely a medal contender given her performances in the recent 2-3 years. Boxing as a sport can be unpredictable due to scoring decisions. But on paper, Nikhat should be vying for a medal.
Event Date: 28 July – 9 August

Women’s Wrestling: Vinesh (50 kg) and Antim (53kg)
Antim and Vinesh should be our two best bets for a medal in Wrestling. Anitm has a World Championship Bronze to her name last year and Vinesh has the experience. Vinesh would like to cap off her glorious career with one medal that is missing from her cabinet – An Olympic medal.
Event Date: 6-8 August

The Shooting Squad
And last but not the least, our shooting squad. A sport where we have had so many expectations in the last 2 Olympic cycles and all we have got is heartbreak. This time around we are sending 21 athletes. The rifle and pistol shooters achieved perfect qualification – got all quotas across events. Can they finally break the jinx and win a medal? We certainly hope so. There is so much talent in India’s shooting squad. On their day, they can contend for medal in any event. Really hope they shine on the D-day at Paris. Fingers crossed for this sport!
Ones to watch-out: Manu Bhaker (3 events), Sift Kaur, Aishwary Tomar and Ramit Jindal
Event Date: 27 Jul – 5 Aug
