We are closing in on the Paris Olympics! The deadline for securing Paris 2024 quotas is fast closing across sports. Let us have a look at prospective quota opportunities for India in coming 40 days!

India athletes have secured 83 quotas till now. Here are the details of all quotas achieved: https://thesportsgram.in/2023/10/09/india-at-paris-2024/

Apart from already secured quotas, here are the sports in which India would look at securing more quotas:

Archery: In Archery, final quotas will be allocated at Final World Qualifier scheduled for 15-16 June in Turkey. India will also have a chance of earning team quotas through rankings. Ranking cut-off is 24th June. For Indian archers to maintain high ranking, they need to perform well in upcoming World Cups: Yecheon World Cup (21-26 May), Antalya World Cup (18-23 May)

Athletics: Indian athletes have a chance of securing qualification standards or improving their World Rankings till June. Here are the athletes in contention:

Women’s Events:

400m: Aishwarya Sharma (Currently at Qualification Rank 70, needs to be in Top 48)
800m: KM Chanda (Currently at Qualification Rank 53, needs to be in Top 48)
5000m: Parul Chaudhary (Currently at Qualification Rank 25), Ankita (Currently at Qualification Rank 37)
10000m: Sanjivani Jadhav (Currently at Qualification Rank 53, needs to be in Top 27)
100m Hurdles: Jyothi Yarraji (Currently at Qualification Rank 28, in World Ranking quota place)
400m Hurdles: Vithya Ramraj (Currently at Qualification Rank 47, needs to be in top 40)
3000m Steeplechase: Priti (Currently at Qualification Rank 32, in World Ranking quota place)
Javelin Throw: Annu Rani (Currently at Qualification Rank 20, in World Ranking quota place)
Heptathlon: Swapna Barman (Currently at Qualification Rank 42, needs to be in Top 24), Nandani Agasara (Currently at Qualification Rank 59, needs to be in Top 24)

Men’s Events

400m: Muhammed Ajmal (Currently at Qualification Rank 59, needs to be in Top 48)
1500m: Ajay Saroj (Currently at Qualification Rank 46, needs to be in Top 45)
5000m: Gulveer Singh (Currently at Qualification Rank 46, needs to be in Top 42)
10000m: Kartik Kumar (Currently at Qualification Rank 44, needs to be in Top 27), Gulveer Singh (Currently at Qualification Rank 46, needs to be in Top 27)
110m Hurdles: Tejas Shirse (Currently at Qualification Rank 67, needs to be in Top 40)
400m Hurdles: Santhosh Kumar (Currently at Qualification Rank 36, in World Ranking Quota place)
3000m Steeplechase: Mohd Hasan (Currently at Qualification Rank 64, needs to be in Top 36)
High Jump: Sarvesh Kushare (Currently at Qualification 30, in World Ranking Quota place), Tejaswin Shankar (Currently at Qualification Rank 43, needs to be in Top 32)
Long Jump: Jeswin Aldrin (Currently at Qualification Rank 26, in World Ranking Quota place)
Triple Jump: Abulla (Currently at Qualification Rank 18, in World Ranking Quota place), Praveen (Currently at Qualification Rank 20, in World Ranking Quota place)
Javelin Throw: DP Manu (Currently at Qualification Rank 12, in World Ranking Quota place)
Decathlon: Tejaswin Shankar (Currently at Qualification Rank 51, needs to be in Top 24)

4x400m Mixed Relay: Currently ranked 23rd, need to be 16th best ranked at least!

Indian athletes will be participating in various events across the World to secure quotas.

Boxing: The final Boxing qualification tournament is scheduled between 23 May – 3 June 2024. Quite a few quota places on offer in this qualifier.

Golf: The ranking cut-off is 17 June for Men and 24 June for Women. Currently 2 Indian golfers are in qualification spots in both Men’s and Women’s side: Men: Subhankar Sharma, Gaganjeet Bhullar; Women: Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar. Tournaments are scheduled in both Men’s and Women’s golf tours for our players to get more ranking points.

Gymnastics: The final qualification opportunity to secure quotas in Artistic Gymnastics at 2024 Asian Championships scheduled between 16-26 May.

Judo: In Judo, India will achieve 1 quota through continental quota. The final ranking list will be published on 23rd June. Avtar Singh, at World Rank 43, is in current quota spot.

Rowing: The final quotas in Rowing will be given at Final World Qualifier scheduled between 19-21 May in Switzerland. Indian rowers will be participating in 2 events at this qualifier.

Swimming: Swimmers have time till 23 June 2024 to reach qualification standards. However, no Indian swimmer has achieved qualification time till now. Most probably India will have representation through universality places.

Tennis: Quotas will be given as per World ranking on 10th June 2024. Rohan Bopanna is assured of a quota in Men’s Doubles. Sumit Nagal is looking at securing a quota in Men’s Singles. He is currently Rank 94 in Race to Paris rankings (Top 64 make it subject to maximum quotas per country). He has 3 tournaments left to get ranking points: Geneva Open, French Open and Heilbronn Challenger.

Qualification process for other sports is complete from an Indian standpoint. The above mentioned sports is where we have a realistic chance of securing Olympic quotas.
