We have got a blockbuster of a sports month to start thing off in 2023. Here are the events to look forward to in January.
Badminton
The 2023 BWF World Tour starts with 3 back to back tournaments in Asia.
Malaysia Open (Super 1000): 10-15 January
India Open (Super 750): 17-22 January
Indonesia Masters (Super 500): 24-29 January
Hockey
The 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup takes place in India. 16 teams will be vying for the title.
When: 13-29 January
India is drawn in Group C along with Spain, England and Wales.

Tennis
The 2023 ATP Tour starts with a ATP 250 event in Maharashtra. Indian players like Yuki Bhambri and Sumit Nagal will be looking to qualify for the main draw. On the doubles side, India will be well represented in the main draw through Rohan Bopanna, Ramkumar, Yuki Bhambri, Saketh Myneni.

Tennis action will then move to Australia for the first grand slam of the year – Australian Open
Australian Open: 16-29 January
Table Tennis
The 2023 WTT Tour starts with 2 Contender events.
WTT Contender Durban: 10-15 January
WTT Contender Doha: 15-21 January
Cricket
Ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup, India will be playing a T20 Tri-Series with South Africa and West Indies.
T20 Tri-Series: 19 January – 2 February
January will also see the first ever edition of Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup taking place in South Africa.
U-19 T20 World Cup: 14-29 January
On the Men’s front, Sri Lanka will be touring India for 3 T20s and 3 ODIs.
India v Sri Lanka – T20s: 3, 5 and 7 Jan
India v Sri Lanka – 3 ODIs: 10, 12 and 15 Jan
Post Sri Lanka, New Zealand will be touring India for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s.
India v New Zealand – ODIs: 18, 21 and 24 Jan
India v New Zealand – T20s: 27 Jan, 29 Jan and 1 Feb
Fencing
There is good news for Indian Fencing. As per latest rankings, 4 Indians are now in the top 100 World Ranking.
Women’s Epee – Taniksha (86)
Women’s Sabre – Bhavani Devi (42)
Men’s Sabre – Karan Singh (68)
Men’s Sabre – Gisho Nidhi (91)
Indian fencers will be taking part in Sabre Grand Prix in Tunisia between 13-15 January.
Golf
On the men’s European Golf Tour, 2 Rolex Series events are scheduled.

26-29 Jan: Dubai Desert Classic
