World Table Tennis Championship 2021

The 2021 edition of World Table Tennis Championship will take place in Houston, USA between 23-29 November. World Table Tennis Championship takes place every year. In even numbered years, team championship takes place and in odd numbered years, singles and doubles event take place.

Sharath, Sathiyan and Manika to lead India at World Table Tennis  Championships Finals

Events at 2021 World Table Tennis Championship:

Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles

The singles draw consists of 128 players and double events have 64 pairs in the draw.

Indian players in the draw:

Men Singles: Sharath Kamal (24th Seed), Sathiyan Gnanasekaran (30th Seed), Harmeet Desai, Amalraj Anthony

Women Singles: Manika Batra, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Madhurika Patkar, Ayhika Mukherjee

Men Doubles: Sharath/Sathiyan (13th seed), Harmeet/Amalraj

Women Doubles: Manika/Archana (10th seed), Madhurika/Sutirtha

Mixed Doubles: Sathiyan/Manika (9th seed), Sharath/Archana

India at World Table Tennis Championship

Till date across all previous editions of World Table Tennis Championship, independent India has never won a medal. However, in 1926 India won 2 Bronze medals – 1 in Men’s Singles (SRG Suppiah) and 1 in Men’s Team.

Can Indian players script history at 2021 Championship?

Indian players have recently displayed good form. Post Tokyo Olympics, Indian players have managed to win titles at World Table Tennis Tour events.
