The 2020 edition of Asian Wrestling Championship is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from 18-23 February. Competition will be held in 30 weight categories – 10 in Greco-Roman, 10 in Freestyle and 10 in Women’s Wrestling.
This is different as compared to the Olympics where only 18 weight categories are present – 6 in each event. The Asian Wrestling Championships will be a good chance for Indian wrestlers to get ranking points. Also, in weight categories where India has not got an Olympic quota yet, wrestlers will be trying to get a medal. This will ensure that they represent India at Asian Olympic qualifiers next month.
India has got an Olympic quota till now in 4 categories: Freestyle – 57, 65, 86 kg; Women Wrestling – 53 kg
