The 2026 edition of the Commonwealth Games is a few days away. Here is a quick reckoner of the games.
First of all, a quick summary of what are the Commonwealth Games?
The Commonwealth Games happen once every 4 years. It is a multi-sport event where athletes from Commonwealth Nations (a group of countries which were former territories of the British Empire) compete. It was first held in 1930. Generally, about 60-70 nations compete at the Commonwealth Games.
If we look at the all-time medal tally of the Commonwealth Games, India sits at 4th position.

India has also hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games and will again be hosting the 2030 edition.

Let us now have a look at the 2026 edition…
The 2026 Commonwealth Games
Venue: The 2026 edition was originally supposed to take place in Victoria, Australia, but they withdrew in 2023. Glasgow, Scotland, took over as hosts for the 2026 edition.
Dates for the Competition: 23 July, 2026 – 3 August, 2026
Telecast in India: The 2026 CWG will live on Sony Ten Network and Sony LIV.
Who is competing? A total of 74 nations will compete at the 2026 CWG. The big sports nations include England, Australia and Canada. A total of 3000 athletes are expected at the Games.
Which sports are part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games?
There will be 11 sports at 2026 CWG – 3×3 Basketball, Artistic Gymnastics, Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Para Powerlifting, Swimming, Track Cycling, Weightlifting. Due to a change in hosts, a lot of sports were removed from the 2026 edition.

There will be a total of 215 medal events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Indian Squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games:
A total of 126 athletes will represent India. India will participate in eight disciplines — athletics, boxing, cycling, gymnastics (artistic), judo, lawn bowls, swimming, and weightlifting.
