Volleyball at the LA 2028 Olympics

Where will Volleyball take place?

Volleyball will be held at the Honda Centre in Anaheim.

Dates for Competition:

15-30th July 2028

Medal events will take place on the 29th and 30th of July.

Events in Volleyball at the LA Olympics: 2 events are scheduled to take place in Volleyball – Men’s Tournament & Women’s Tournament.

Number of Quota Places:

12 teams will qualify in each of the Men’s and Women’s tournaments. Each team will be represented by 12 athletes and hence a total of 288 athletes will be part of Volleyball at LA 2028 Olympics.

How to Qualify:

For both Men’s and Women’s tournaments, quotas will be allocated through 4 qualification routes:

Qualification is through following 5 formats:

Host Country Quotas: USA as the host nation will get 1 quota each in both Men’s and Women’s tournaments. Given the popularity of volleyball in USA, USA will definitely accept the host country quota.

Continental Quotas: Winner of each of the 5 continental championships to be played in 2026 will achieve a quota for the LA 2028 Olympics.

  1. Asian Volleyball Championships 2026
  2. African Volleyball Championships 2026
  3. EuroVolley 2026
  4. South American Volleyball Championship 2026
  5. NORCECA Volleyball Championship 2026

World Championship 2027: The three highest-placed teams in the final standings of the Volleyball World Championships 2027 per gender, are allocated a quota place for the LA28 Olympic Games.

World Ranking Quotas: Basis the FIVB Volleyball World Ranking as of June 2028, 3 quota places will be allocated to eligible teams that have not yet qualified for the LA28 Games. Priority will be given to:
a. Teams from a continent without a qualified team
b. Other teams not yet qualified

India’s Chance of Qualification:

India has never achieved Olympic qualification in Volleyball. Even their last appearance at the World Championship was in 1956. The Indian Men’s team is ranked 58th in the world (even below Pakistan), while the Women’s team is ranked 68th.
