Where will Tennis take place?

Tennis will be held at the Dignity Health Tennis Center in the Carson Zone, part of the South Bay Sports Park. It will be played on a hard court surface.

Dates for Competition:

19-28th July 2028

Medal Matches: 20th July, 27th & 28th July

Events in Tennis at the LA Olympics:

5 events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles

Throwback to an iconic Olympic Moment

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Novak Djokovic completed a Golden Slam (4 Grand Slams + Olympic Gold). He became only the 5th athlete to complete this feat. Others to complete this feat are Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams.

Number of Quota Places:

A total of 172 quotas will be allocated (86 Male and 86 Female).

A nation can have a maximum of 12 quotas (6 Male and 6 Female).

How to Qualify:

Qualification will be based on ATP & WTA World Rankings.

Singles Qualification: A total of 64 athletes will compete in each of the Men’s and Women’s Singles tournaments. A maximum of 4 quotas per nation will be allocated in both Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles.

Qualification will be based on 4 pathways:

  1. World Ranking: Top 56 athletes subject to a maximum of 4 per nation will qualify basis world ranking as of 12 June, 2028.
  2. Host Country Quota: 1 quota will definitely be allocated to the host nation.
  3. ITF Places: Winners of the following 4 tournaments get a quota – 2027 Pan American Games, 2026 Asian Games, 2027 African Games and 2027 Pacific Games. 2 quota places will be allocated to previous Olympic Gold Medalists/Grand Slam Champions who have not qualified through the ranking route/continental place, given their ranking is top 500.
  4. Universality Place: 1 quota will be allocated through the universality quota.

Doubles Qualification: The Men’s and Women’s Doubles events will consist of a 32-team draw each. Qualification will be through 2 routes:

  1. Host Country Quota – 1 quota is reserved for the host country.
  2. Ranking Quotas:
    a) World Top-10 ranked athletes get a direct quota. These athletes can choose any partner, subject to that partner being in the top-300 world ranking.
    b) Combined Ranking: 14 teams will get a quota basis highest highest combined ranking of both athletes in a team.
    c) Singles Priority: Remaining quotas will be allocated to the highest combined ranking of Singles players along with their teammates.

Mixed Doubles Qualification: 16 teams will participate in the Mixed Doubles event. Qualification will be based on the highest combined ranking of athletes. Only athletes who have qualified for the Singles/Doubles event can apply for a team for Mixed Doubles. Only one team per nation can participate in the Mixed Doubles event.

Indian Players to watch out for during qualification:

Based on current ranking and recent performances, the only Indian athlete with a realistic chance of qualification is Yuki Bhambri. He is ranked top-25 in the world ranking. He would require another Indian doubles player to be in the top 100 ranking to have a realistic chance of Men’s Doubles qualification.

Indian Olympic Medalists in Tennis: Only 1 Indian athlete has won a medal in Tennis – Leander Paes won Bronze at the 1996 Olympics in Men’s Singles.
