Here are the top sports news from January:

  1. Manush/Diya won the 2026 WTT Muscat Contender Mixed Doubles title.
  2. India lost the ODI series at home against New Zealand 1-2.

Cricket

Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: India will co-host the 2026 T20 World Cup along with Sri Lanka between 7 February to 8 March.

Format: 20 teams divided into 4 groups -> Top 2 teams in each group go into Super 8 -> Semis -> Final

India is in Group A along with Namibia, Netherlands, USA and Pakistan. Group fixtures:

7 Feb: India v USA, Mumbai
12 Feb: India v Namibia, Delhi
15 Feb: India v Pakistan, Colombo
18 Feb: India v Netherlands, Ahmedabad

Super 8 fixtures scheduled between 22-28 February.

Women: The WPL final is scheduled on 5th February. Post that Indian Women’s team will travel to Australia for 3 T20, 3 ODI and 1 Test series.

T20 Series:
15 Feb: Sydney
19 Feb: Canberra
21 Feb: Adelaide

ODI Series:
24 Feb: Brisbane
27 Feb: Hobart
1 Mar: Hobart

Hockey

Indian Men’s Hockey team will start its FIH Pro League 2026 campaign with the first 8 matches scheduled in India and Australia.

11 Feb: India v Belgium
12 Feb: India v Argentina
14 Feb: India v Belgium
15 Feb: India v Argentina

Australian Leg of matches (Venue: Hobart)

21 Feb: India v Spain
22 Feb: Australia v India
24 Feb: Spain v India
25 Feb: Australia v India

Badminton

The Asian Badminton Team Championships will take place in China between 3-8 February.

The BWF World Tour will then resume in Europe.

23 Feb – 1 Mar: German Open (BWF 300)

Table Tennis

The World Table Tennis tour will be in India this month for Star Contender Chennai. Here are the events scheduled:

2-6 Feb: WTT Feeder Cappadocia
10-15 Feb: WTT Star Contender Chennai
19 Feb – 1 Mar: Singapore Smash

Tennis

Mumbai will host the WTA 125 L&T Open.

2-8 Feb: L&T Open

In Davis Cup, India will play Netherlands in Bengaluru in the Qualifiers 1st round tie.

7-8 Feb: India v Netherlands

Post this, India will host 3 ATP Challenger events.

9-15 Feb: Chennai Open Challenger (ATP 50)
16-22 Feb: Delhi Open Challenger (ATP 75)
23 Feb – 1 Mar: Pune Open Challenger (ATP 75)

Winter Olympics

Italy will be hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics between 6-22 February.

India will be represented in 2 events – Alpine Skiing and Cross-country Skiing

Shooting

The Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships will be hosted by New Delhi between 2 and 14 February.

Fencing

In Fencing, the following events are scheduled:

5-7 Feb: Foil Turin Grand Prix
5-6 Feb: Epee Male German World Cup
6-7 Feb: Epee Female China World Cup

Basketball

India is slated to play Qatar and Lebanon as part of 1st round of 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

27 Feb: Qatar v India
2 Mar: Lebanon v India

Golf

The Ladies European Tour 2026 will start in the Middle East.

11-14 Feb: Saudi Ladies International
26 Feb – 1 Mar: Women’s NSW Open
